Webinars
Background
The Capacity Enhancement Program (CEP) is a strategic initiative of the Cancer Guidelines Advisory Group of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer Corporation. The CEP, which is academically linked to the Department of Oncology at McMaster University, plans to host six webinars from January to June 2012 to provide training and facilitate discussion in evidence-based practice guideline development and implementation.

Tuesday, January 31, 12:00-1:00 EST: Advanced Clinical Trial Designs
- An overview of advanced study design issues, including non-inferiority and equivalence trials, crossover trials, factorial trials, interim analysis and trials stopped early for benefit.
Tuesday, February 28, 12:00-1:00 EST: Developing Guideline Recommendations
- A discussion of factors influencing recommendations, language of recommendations, and the pros and cons of grading recommendations.
Tuesday, March 27, 12:00-1:00 EDT: Meta-analysis
- A practical overview of when meta-analysis is appropriate, its strengths and limitations, and basics of how to perform and interpret a meta-analysis.
Tuesday, April 24, 12:00-1:00 EDT: Knowledge Translation Part I
- An overview of the knowledge to action cycle; problem identification; identification, review and selection of evidence; and adaptation of knowledge to the local context.
Tuesday, May 15, 12:00-1:00 EDT: Knowledge Translation Part II
- A review of barriers and enablers to knowledge translation (KT), KT interventions, and evaluating the success of KT interventions.
Tuesday, June 12, 12:00-1:00 EDT: Guideline Adaptation
- An overview of the methods used in guideline adaptation, including searching for guidelines, evaluating guidelines, and adapting/adopting/endorsing guidelines.
Format
The webinars will consist of presentations, short videos, and interactive exercises. Webinars will be hosted online via WebEx and telephone conferencing.
Target Audience
The primary target audience is cancer practice guideline methodologists and guideline development panel members, including program managers, disease site team members and tumour groups. The webinars may also be of interest to health care professionals, clinical trainees, graduate students, information specialists, administrators, and decision-makers interested in cancer guideline development.
Facilitators
The webinars will be led by the CEP Training Coordinators.
